Brian McGuinness, Ph.D.
Medicinal Chemistry
Team Leader

  • Sixteen years experience in the design and synthesis of pharmaceuticals with proficiency in all stages of drug discovery including hit-to-lead, lead optimization and combinatorial techniques (Pharmacopeia, Inc. and Ligand Pharmaceuticals).

  • Skilled team leader with expertise in collaborative research and management of off-shore FTEs. Led successful collaborative projects with Merck, GSK, and BMS.

  • Designed and synthesized a wide variety of therapeutic molecules: kinase inhibitors, enzyme inhibitors, CNS agents, and GPCR antagonists.

  • Designed and synthesized multiple heterocyclic large solid-phase encoded chemical libraries which produced hit/lead compounds for over ten medicinal chemistry programs.

  • Designed and synthesized High-Load PEG-PS (PerSeptive Biosystems).

  • Published over 25 papers in the areas of drug discovery, combinatorial synthesis, peptide synthesis, solid-phase resin development, and DNA-drug interactions.

  • Co-inventor of over 15 patents covering CXCR3 receptor antagonists, A2A receptor antagonists, CRTH2 receptor antagonists, and combinatorial libraries.

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Columbia University, New York, NY with Koji Nakanishi.

  • NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship, MIT, Cambridge, Mass with Peter Lansbury, Jr.
