Brenda Petronella
Discovery Biology, Team Leader

Dr. Brenda Petronella joined Venenum Biodesign in 2015 and brings with her over six years of experience in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. She worked for five years at OSI Pharmaceuticals where she provided biochemistry and enzymology support to a variety of cross-functional project teams at various stages of development. Dr. Petronella was instrumental in the design and development of numerous biochemical assays that were employed for high-throughput screening campaigns as well as lead optimization and inhibitor characterization for IND-track oncology targets. Dr. Petronella also worked at Enzo Life Sciences where she engaged in assay development efforts for Enzo’s CGH labeling technology and a series of PCR-based clinical diagnostic tests.

Dr. Petronella graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania in the laboratory of Professor Dewey McCafferty where she studied the catalytic mechanism and inhibition of the Staphylococcus aureus transpeptidase SrtA. Dr. Petronella conducted postdoctoral studies in the laboratory of Professor John Blanchard at Albert Einstein College of Medicine with a focus on mechanistic enzymology
