Rob Swanson, Ph.D.
Gene Expression and Protein Purification

Dr. Robert Swanson is a biochemist/molecular biologist with extensive experience in drug discovery, including reagent generation, assay development, HTS and ultra-high throughput screening and lead optimization. Dr. Swanson has worked in drug discovery since 1993, when he joined the fledgling Pharmacopeia, Inc., a pioneering company in combinatorial chemistry and ultra high-throughput screening.

After conducting early studies to test Pharmacopeia’s core technology and show that encoded libraries of small organic molecules can be synthesized, eluted from their solid supports and screened against potential drug targets, he spent three years developing the reagents (recombinant cell lines and proteins) necessary for high-throughput screening programs.

Dr. Swanson also managed several successful Lead Discovery programs in a broad range of therapeutic areas, including pain, inflammation, metabolic disease and CNS disorders, for Pharmacopeia and its alliance partners, including Roche, Organon/Schering-Plough, GlaxoSmithKline, Boehringer-Ingelheim and Taiho Pharmaceutical Company.
