Dr. Michael McQueney has worked in the pharmaceutical industry since 1994. Dr. McQueney worked for 14 years at GlaxoSmithKline in a wide range of preclinical drug discovery platform areas including recombinant protein production, assay development, high throughput screening, systems research, and cell technology. Dr. McQueney has drug discovery experience in numerous therapeutic areas such as COPD, asthma, heart failure, hypertension, atherosclerosis, arthritis, osteoporosis, inflammation, cancer, and infectious diseases. Working closely with therapeutic scientists, Dr. McQueney has initiated and/or led 12 discovery research programs, predominantly enzyme targets, through HTS and lead generation. Dr. McQueney developed clinical biomarker assays while working in GSK’s Respiratory and Inflammation Centre for Excellence in Drug Discovery. As a manager at GSK, Dr. McQueney was involved in establishing four new functional departments and in implementing operational excellence. Additionally, Dr. McQueney has served on several global committees that evaluated new drug targets and the progression of ongoing discovery research programs.

Dr. McQueney joined Venenum Biodesign in 2009 as its second employee, and helped to establish its functional operation. Dr. McQueney chairs Venenum’s drug discovery program evaluation subcommittee, and manages antimicrobial and immunology drug discovery efforts. He has co-authored over thirty papers and is an inventor on six issued patents.
